History: Film plot.

The link above details the plot of the film, but for more Richie-specific information, as there are some deviations from the book:
○ His father is a dentist, and his mother is an alcoholic. They either neglect him, or otherwise do not devote much of their time to Richie, which leads him to acting out as he does for attention.
○ Eddie references Richie having a sister, which his mother wanted but never had in the novel, but none of Richie's family members are in the film.
○ Academically, he's a good student, but consistently gets in trouble with his behavior.
○ Following Eddie breaking his arm, Richie and Bill get into a fight because Bill wants to continue pursuing Pennywise and Richie doesn't want to die. The dispute is finally resolved weeks later after Beverly is taken by Pennywise and Bill needs Richie's help.

Personality:

To anyone who has ever encountered Richie Tozier for even five minutes likely came to the obvious conclusion: he is a class clown. Truly, he is possibly one of the most obnoxious children to have ever existed. He has a comment to make about everything, and nine times out of ten, it's crude, profane, or otherwise crosses a line that shouldn't be crossed. It's all done in the name of comedy, though. If the plethora of 'your mom' or dick jokes aren't enough, he also has his voice impressions--which are far from the mark, as every variation just sounds like Richie rather than anything he's attempting.

It's his mouth that causes him many of his problems. He's an energetic, excitable, impulsive, fly-by-the-seat-of-his-pants sort of kid who doesn't know how to shut up. The lack of a filter not only causes problems with adults, but also with the Bowers gang, a group of older, unruly teenagers who enjoy terrorizing the Losers (and really, everyone else.) The extreme case of the Bowers gang aside, Richie can be a difficult person to get along with, despite his being a fairly outgoing person. His jokes aren't for everyone, and there's not much of an appeal in interacting with him if someone isn't capable of either rolling their eyes over it or dishing it back to him.

At the core of Richie's behavior is a desparate need for attention. His parents are inattentive, leaving Richie up to his own devices and looking elsewhere for the attention and validation that he needs. His entire attitude is very much one that involves laughing at the world. It's easier to make jokes about everything than deal with emotions, and it's gotten to the point where his sense of humor remains intact even when he's the target of whatever unfortunate circumstance. Part of this is also due to his using humor to act as a shield to mask his insecurities.

Because he often feels invisible and ignored at home, he has developed deep insecurities about being forgotten, ignored, or abandoned. This is something Richie has to confront when he goes to the Neibolt house with Bill and Eddie. He first sees a missing persons flyer for himself, stylized like those of all the kids in Derry who had gone missing. Seeing the flyer, with the photo being of him in the outfit he was wearing that day, was enough to send him into sheer panic.

This is quickly followed up with Richie having to face his own mortality when he encounters a coffin with 'found' written on it, which held a decomposing Richie-shaped doll. Prior to this, and his interactions with It as a whole, Richie didn't fear much (just clowns), and didn't really acknowledge what death was, or that it was something that affected everyone. Up until this point, he embodied the invincibility of youth.

All of Richie's faults aside he's a loyal and dedicated friend to those he's close to. He can be relied on to be there for his friends when it matters most, even if it's a situation that he doesn't want to be involved in. Part of the reason he wound up going into the Neibolt house with Bill at all is because he trusts Bill and looks up to him a lot, despite how much he actually doesn't want to be there at all. He agrees to go back a second time because his friends needed his help. However, he's not the sort to blindly follow, either. He questions things, and tends to make his opinion known, even if it's something he disagrees with.

He isn't a traditional hero by any means, but he also has his own sort of bravery, where in select circumstances, he disregards his own safety for that of his friends. Most notably, in the moments following Eddie breaking his arm, where his focus is entirely on trying to help Eddie despite It still being in the room and potentially moments away from killing all of them. Another, of course, is when he chooses taking the opportunity to try killing It rather than making a clean getaway and leaving Bill behind. (Honestly, how could he even, anyway.)

Basically, Richie has the potential of being incredibly annoying with his awful jokes and voices, but he has more depth than what can be seen at face-value. He's a good kid who means well, regardless of what asinine thing comes out of his mouth.

Abilities/Skills: He's a normal human boy, and has no powers or abilities beyond that, unless being fantastically skilled at voice impressions that sound nothing like what's intended counts.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

Strengths:
○ Coping. He effectively uses humor to deal with difficult situations and mask his insecurities.
○ Loyal to his friends. Even in situations where he's scared or doesn't want to be apart of the situation, he'll tough things out for his friends.
○ Talking. Do you hate awkward silences, or do you need to sneak into someone's apartment and need a lookout who can relentlessly keep a target distracted, regardless of age? Richie's your guy.
○ Charisma. This is a skill he's still honing and will need to grow into. However, he has the potential of being extremely charismatic.

Weaknesses:
○ Lack of a filter. Richie's nickname is Trashmouth for a reason--he can't keep his mouth shut, and he's prone to using profanities, and taking jokes too far. The result of this is that he's often getting into some kind of trouble, whether with adults or his least favorite bullies.
○ Desperate for attention. Because of his home life, Richie often craves any sort of attention he can get, whether positive or negative.
○ Eye sight. Have you seen how thick his lenses are? Without his glasses, he's blind as a bat.
○ Confrontational. He has this really bad habit where he picks fights with bullies that will definitely beat him up. Sometimes instead of bullies, it's his own friends. So many of his problems are Tozier-made.

Items: Coke-bottle eye glasses, the clothes he's wearing. If possible, his bicycle.
